Lewis Hamilton has announced his next step in Formula 1, but Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Man United may be happy to have him back in the sport in the future.
After his’multi-year’ contract with Ferrari was confirmed, seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton previously made hints that he would team up with Sim Jim Ratcliffe at Manchester United.
After 11 years with Mercedes, Hamilton will join Ferrari at the conclusion of the 2024 season. The English driver, who will now join Charles Leclerc in 2025, won six of his seven championships with the club.
Ratcliffe, the new part-owner of United, co-founded INEOS, which owns a third of Mercedes in addition to Mercedes-Benz Group AG and Toto Wolff.
When his Ferrari contract expires, Hamilton is set to terminate his Formula One career. He has already made admissions to several business platforms that he will cease racing. United steps in at this point.
The 39-year-old disclosed his friendship with Ratcliffe during the Glazer family’s strategic assessment and made a suggestion about his potential participation with United in the future. “I am very close with Jim, so I am aware of where he is at [with United],” he stated. “We talk a lot about football as he is very passionate about it.”We have fantastic conversations about the work his staff is doing and the performance of Arsenal, the team Hamilton loves. Since he is obviously from Manchester, that city is his ideal residence becoming more active in teams because I firmly believe in black equity and ownership, both of which are lacking in sports. Once more, that is genuinely lacking.”
