Brian Kelly and the LSU football staff are still searching for a few wide receivers in the 2025 cycle, and they will likely step up their efforts even more now that Dakorien Moore withdrew his commitment on Thursday.
The top wide receiver in America, Moore, declared he would renounce his commitment to the Tigers and resume his recruitment.
Now that Texas, Oregon, and Ohio State are in the running for the top receiver position, it’s full steam ahead. The Longhorns look to be the early favorites.
One of the wideouts that the LSU Tigers have been after is Kaliq Lockett, the No. 2 receiver in the country.
Cortez Hankton has proven himself as a skilled recruiter in the wide receiver class, and with his current 2025 Big Board, he is ready to step up his efforts even more.
Here, as formal inspections are set to begin in earnest, we examined five areas to keep an eye on this summer:
The gifted wide receiver TaRon Francis, who is ranked #1 in Louisiana by Edna Karr, has committed to LSU. The New Orleans native has remained loyal to the purple and gold in the hopes of becoming The Boot’s next great receiver.
For many years, Edna Karr High School has produced athletes of the highest caliber; Francis may be the next in line.
Throughout his high school career, Francis has kept moving in the correct manner, making him a Bayou State Top 10 talent.
As of right now, Francis is the lone wideout committed to the Tigers in the 2025 class; but, a couple more explosive receivers are expected to follow him.
Wright recently concluded an incredible junior campaign in which he made waves with an outstanding Destrehan program. It did not take long for Hankton and LSU to make an offer after he became well-known.
Wright will have his choice of colleges to play collegiate ball from an offer list that includes Michigan, Baylor, and Georgia, among many others.
One of Bayou State’s best players will be difficult for the Tigers to acquire, but the coaching staff has already started putting up a full court push to get him.
Zay Martin: Louisiana’s Up-and-Coming Star
Zay Martin, a native of Baton Rouge, made a major splash this spring. With other institutions vying for his attention, his recruitment process intensified following his participation in the Overtime 7v7 League in Orlando with Bryce Underwood and company.
With Underwood flinging him the ball, Martin got the chance to show that he can compete with the best players in America, and it was obvious the two bonded right away.
Martin does not currently have an offer from LSU, but that is likely to change in the near future. Despite being a late bloomer, he possesses all the necessary qualities to succeed in his final campaign with University Lab in Baton Rouge.
The top-ranked linebacker in Louisiana and LSU commit Keylan Moses, with whom he plays high school ball, continues to express gratitude to him on social media.
With the Tigers pressing the Texas native full-court, Lockett has become one of the best wide receivers in the 2025 cycle.
He has made multiple trips to The Boot and will return on May 31 to start his formal visit.
The Tigers are making their due diligence in this one, but all indications point to a competition for his services down the stretch between LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M.
Lockett is presently a member of Team Fleaux, a 7-on-7 squad that also includes Keylan Moses, Bryce Underwood, Harlem Berry, Zay Martin, and several other LSU targets.
With the highly sought-after wideout at the top of their 2025 Big Board, the Tigers are intensifying their pursuit of one of the finest in the country.
Following an incredible junior campaign in the Sunshine State, Ffrench has emerged as one of the top candidates for the 2025 cycle. He has regularly been courted by the best programs in the nation, including LSU, Ohio State, Texas, and Miami.
He has now finalized his formal visitation schedule, and the Tigers will get their chance to see Ffrench on May 31. Lockett will travel with him.
The five-star defensive back DJ Pickett will travel down South at the same time as the superstar wide receivers for officials in Baton Rouge.
Anticipate Hankton and Company to step up their efforts for both out-of-state targets in the run-up to the formal visit. Both will have a busy summer ahead of them due to their visitation schedule, but LSU will undoubtedly throw a lavish party.
When it comes recruiting prospects from outside the state, Wiley has emerged as a prominent contender for this program. It is evident that the Tigers have been scouting in-state wide receivers for years, but Lockett, Ffrench, and Wiley are the three prospects that first spring to mind when discussing the other prospects.
The native of Georgia will be fervently loyal to Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs, but LSU wants to leave a lasting impression. It’s likely that the Tigers will act quickly to bring him to town for a visit.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound player has had offers from some of the best schools in the country, including LSU.
